Title 1

Chicora Elementary is a Title I School, which means all students in the building are eligible to receive services at anytime, based on their needs. The Title I program is designed to begin to assist students as soon as they enroll in the Karns City Area School District.  Our primary focus of instruction and intervention is grades K-3, which supports the philosophy of building a strong reading foundation will develop lifelong successful readers.

Assessment begins immediately and students are provided intervention and assistance as soon as possible using the Multi-Tiered System of Supports. All students are screened three times a year using the AimswebPlus benchmark assessments in the areas of reading and mathematics. Students are provided with help based on these results. In addition, all students are assessed using the STAR Test to better help teachers differentiate their instruction. Tiers of interventions are implemented and student progress is monitored.

Both regular classroom teachers and Title I staff are very involved with providing students with appropriate interventions using the data to refine targeted lessons to ensure that all students reach their highest level of achievement.

In addition, the district provides full day kindergarten with highly qualified classroom teachers and paraprofessionals who are assigned and prepared to assist students in need from the first day of school.

The overall goal of the Title I Program is to develop confident readers who will be successful throughout their life.
